We’re holding our annual holiday boutique at the Putnam Valley Library this year. Here until 4:00pm today, and 10:00am - 4:00pm tomorrow. One weekend only! #shoplocal #supportlocalhistory #putnamvalley
We are all set up at Town Day! We’re to the left, against the fence overlooking the baseball field.
When we get visitors here at the museum, one of the questions that's almost always asked is "was this always a schoolhouse?" It was built in the early 1840's as a one-room schoolhouse for district #3 in Putnam Valley, and remained a schoolhouse until the late 1920's when students were temporarily attending school in Shrub Oak until our Putnam Valley Central School (the present Putnam Valley Elementary School) was built. For a time after that, the schoolhouse was home to the Public Health Association of Putnam Valley and Kent, offering health and dental services to the community as well as offering support to new mothers and a lending closet to those families in need. It was then a nursery school before becoming home to the Putnam Valley Historical Society. Today, these pictures surfaced. It looks like at one point, there was wallpaper in here and after that was removed, the walls and wainscotting painted with contrasting colors - known to be sky blue, then yellow, until everything was painted over in our current light cream. Labeled on the back of the photos are Dr. Virginia Buckley, Dr. Elvia Ostlund, Nurse Margaret Kramers Ungberg. #localhistory #PutnamValleyHistory #HudsonValleyHistory
Happy Independence Day! We have a scrapbook that includes dozens of holiday themed postcards and greeting card fronts. These are some of the more patriotic samples. #historicalsociety #putnamvalleyhistory
